«Les Pagodes de Cos» is in the strictest sense of the term Cos d'Estournel's "Second Wine". The vines producing this wine will be blended in a few years time in the "Grand Vin" of the 1855 Grand Cru Classification. These vines belong to the same Terroir and are given the same careful treatment.

They are simply younger and their roots do not penetrate the gravelly soil so deeply. Powerful, very aromatic, long in the mouth and with a very persistent finish, "Les Pagodes de Cos" is a refined wine offering a moment of great pleasure. This wine should be drunk within the ten years after being Château bottled.

1994 :
After 1989 and 1982, this vintage will be the third one of this century for which the harvest will have ended in September. Just like any early-picking vintage, it is a great year. The nose is fruity and spicy. The tannins are smooth in the mouth. It is a wine for pleasure. Our advice: Pleasant to drink now. Can still be aged in a cellar for a few more years.

1995 :
Great year marked by a dry summer. Beautiful intensity. Both concentrated and still very delicate. It is an elegant wine. Our advice: ready to drink now but can still be kept for a few more years.

1996 :
Great year marked by good weather conditions. Ruby red slightly evolved colour. Red and black fruits nose. The tannins are more firm than in 1995 but still soft. It is an elegant wine with a beautiful finish in the mouth. Our advice: Ready to drink now but can still be kept in a good cellar for a few more years.

1997 :
Difficult year due to some disturbed weather conditions in spring. This has led to some failure of bloom and millerandage on the Merlot vines. A severe selection of the crop was necessary to remove all the grapes suffering from botrytis. Medium intensity. Aromas of cassis and licorice. The tannins are supple and elegant. Our advice: A wine of pleasure to be drunk now.

1998 :
Good year, saved by an exceptional weather in August. Very successful vintage for the Merlots. Beautiful ruby-red colour. A classical style with a brilliant fruit. Amazing freshness. Long finish. Our advice: Already pleasant to drink but sufficiently tannic to be kept a few more years.

1999 :
Good year. Disturbed weather conditions during harvest but the fruits are perfectly healthy. A strict parcel selection contributed to the success of the vintage. Red and black fruits nose but still young. Beautiful structure in the mouth, with smooth and racy tannins. Very long finish on the palate. Our advice: Already pleasant to drink for those who love young wines but its optimal maturity should be reached in 2004.

2000 :
Great year. After some difficult weather conditions in spring, August and September were beneficial to the vintage. Ripe fruits nose. Young structure of silky and elegant tannins. Rich and concentrated. Our advice: Still too young. Optimal maturity estimated between 2005 and 2010.

2005 :
Velvety red. Pagodes de Cos 2005 is a seductive wine displaying aromas of blackberries, fragrant and floral. It has got a long supple finish. There is a lot of freshness in this wine. Drink: 2009-2016.
